Wondering how to earn community service hours this summer? You can give back to your community while doing it! Summer of Service at Children’s Discovery Museum is still accepting registrations for our summer camp for 7th-10th graders.
You’re probably wondering, why should I join? Well, with SOS you can…
-Earn community service hours for school credit
-Help out your community
-Gain skills in media, leadership, working with kids, and environmental restoration
-Learn about social and community issues affecting the area and youth
-It is a productive way to spend your summer
-Meet new people
Choose a team based on your interests:
Purple Team: Get behind-the-scenes in the Museum. Prepare and facilitate activities for Museum visitors! Contribute to an SOS ‘zine and documentary video in the CDMedia.Studio.
Orange Team: Be a mentor and friend to a little one at a local pre-school. Share a lunch, read a book, play games and lead activities in the classroom.
Green Team: Become an Environmental Guardian! Conduct water quality tests and river clean-up, plant a tree or harvest locally grown produce.
Red Team: Show your multiple talents on this community outreach team. Serve food to the hungry, volunteer at a senior center, and make a difference in the lives of others in the community.
Striped Team (10th graders): Join our veteran SOSers for this exciting leadership experience. Complete special projects at a different service site each session, and design and lead activities for younger SOS participants.
